My Story

I (Javier Jr.) started in the restaurant world when I was only 12 years old back in Charleston, WV. At that time my parents Javier Sr. and Lupe Valdez were only part owners in a restaurant (Cancun Mexican Restaurant). They would work hard to eventually move us to a small town called Ripley, WV about 30 min. from Charleston, WV. I remember the year clearly, 1995 was when my father Javier Sr. and mother Lupe opened their first restaurant, Cozumel Mexican Restaurant! I remember working there when I would get out of school, spend my spring breaks working and any free time I had to learn the business. In 2000 we opened another location and guess where? Yes, Charleston, WV in the same location where my parents had part ownership. Now instead of Cancun Mexican Restaurant it would be called Cozumel Mexican Restaurant! My brother Miguel was still a baby at this time but as the years passed he grew and followed in the family business, he has worked hard to learn every aspect of the restaurant business and also loves it. Combined we have over 50 years experience in this field and would like to bring it to the Tri-Cities Area. I moved here about 3 years ago because I thought I needed a change from the restaurant business but I guess you can’t deny what you were meant to do. I love working in a Mexican restaurant atmosphere where everyone is happy, awesome culture, great food and that’s what we will offer to everyone in the area.
